The Japanese carp

or Koi (lat. Cyprus Carpio) is an ornamental species of common carp with a specific colour, pattern and husk.

In Japanese, the word "koi" means "affection" or "love" and is therefore a symbol of love and friendship in Japan. It can grow to over a metre in length and can live for up to 70 years.
